Dr. Roy has 26 years of extensive international hospitality and tourism business organization experience as well as 16 years of teaching and research experience in tourism and marketing across diverse country contexts. In addition to being a Technical Consultant at GP, Dr. Roy is a Senior Lecturer in the Hospitality and Tourism Management Program at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Canada. As a researcher, his work is interdisciplinary in nature and explores issues of environment, social, economic, and ecological perspectives of visitors’ context of tourism, hospitality, leisure, and heritage domains.
In addition to publishing many tourism articles, Dr. Roy has managed and supervised several tourism projects within the public and private sectors (e.g., Destination Canada and Destination British Columbia, Canada). Recent projects completed include “Climate Resilience and Tourism in British Columbia: Destination Management Perspectives” and “A Comprehensive Impact of FIFA World Cup Events: A Case of Vancouver, British Columbia”. These projects have highly influenced by the DMO’s (Destination Management Organization) in Canada. Over the years Dr. Roy has collaborated with universities, industries, local authorities, and international organizations. These global experiences enhanced his research and made impactful implications in the society. As an expert in tourism, hospitality, and heritage domains, Dr. Roy is currently working as a principal grant reviewer to assess DMO’s grant applications for enhancement of visitors’ involvement at the destinations under Government of New Jersey Division of Travel & Tourism Department (USA).
Dr. Roy taught tourism and hospitality destination courses at colleges and universities in Canada and New Zealand and worked in hotel management positions in India, the Cayman Islands, and Canada (Hilton – Vancouver Airport).
Dr. Roy is a Certified Chef de Cuisine (CCC) Désignation Holder- The Canadian Culinary Institute (CCI) and Certified Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA) Designation Holder – American Hotel and Lodging Association & STR, USA, who earned a PhD Degree in Management from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand and a MBA Degree from the University of Guelph in Canada. He also holds a BA Degree in Political Science, History, and Education from the University of Calcutta, India; the B.C. Provincial Instructor Diploma in Teaching and Train the Trainer Certificate from the Vancouver Community College in Canada; a Diploma in Cooking (Inter-Provincial Red Seal) from the Industry Training and Apprenticeship Commission in British Columbia (BC) in Canada; a Diploma in Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition from the Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition in India; and a Certificate of Indigenous Awareness from the Indigenous Relations Academy, BC, Canada.
